There are some famous and big channels in Turkey such as; TRT, KANAL D, STAR TV, SHOW TV, NTV, CNNTURK CNBC-E etc. Every TV channel had a different publication. Each channel had a different content in their programmes. Unfortunately, nowadays rating is the most important factor for TV channels and such channels; Kanal D, Show Tv, ATV started to publish reality programmes just for rating. Viewers started to become addicted to these programmes and this cause a big trouble for Turkish publication. Just for rating, just for gaining a little much money from these programmes, they decrease the quality of their channels. Despite of some of the channels decrease their quality, there are some channels which keep on going well, such as the channels; TRT, NTV, CNBC-E etc. I can easily say that TRT is the best-known and should be the most watched TV channel in Turkey. There are main reasons why i flatter TRT. To give a reason in point, they never make concessions from their publication and by the day, they become a more qualified channel with their informative, didactic publication conception.

My Relationship With The Media
January 7th, 2009 by ytarman in PART 2 · 1 Comment
Media has a strong power in most countries. Although it has some beneficial parts, there are also negative things that we can say about media, especially in Turkey. To give an example for the positive effect of media is that i can immediately learn the every kind of news which have happened around the world, so that i am informed and i can criticize or compare the events which are right or wrong.
From the point of view of me, media is seen as an uninterruptible power supply in Turkey, because it has a strong power nearly the same as the ruling party. I think that Tayyip Erdoğan; the prime minister of Turkey and Aydın Doğan; the boss of the media in Turkey have same power. Also, For example, Cem Uzan, the governor of the Genç Parti (GP) has stolen large amount of money but by the help of the media channel; Star Tv; he gained % 7 votes in the election from all around Turkey. It is clearly seen that the votes given for Cem Uzan is too high because of the advertisement he gave to the channel, Star Tv.

Salman Rushdie criticizes the reality programmes during these days. In his text he gave some examples of some reality shows such as; “Big Brother 2″ and “Who wants to be a millionaire” . He thinks that these kind of TV shows is existent because of the rating thay got. Viewers watch that programmes because these programmes tell us things about ourselves. He also thinks that the “Big Brother” has been watching because it it the most boring programme and it attracts people’s attention also. In those programmes, ethical questions are simply obliterated.

“Enormous Radio” is a story which deals with a family that buys a new radio and the issues that radio brings to their lives. After the old radio stopped working properly, Jim bought a new radio to Irene. They both like listening to music very much. In the story, there are some important parts such as ” the tension in their marriage and willing suspension of disbelief. ( Wikipedia ) . In real world, it is impossible to hear people’s arguement from radio, but in the story, it is used to show the media’s power. We can argue that if media affects people in a positive or negative way but, here we again clearly see that while the technology has been rising up very fastly , media’s power has getting more and more powerful.
“Tiny Smiling Daddy” by Mary Gaitskill

The story is based on the relationship between Stew and Kitty in different periods of life. Mainly, the author wants to draw attention to the changes of the father-children relationship during Kitty’s teenage years. Problems starts to occur especially ; rebellion, disagreement, strong emotion, psychological changes and sexual experimentation can be given as an examples of the conflict. The author gives some examples about the relationship between Kitty and his father; Stew by symbolizing.
I like to read this story, because it is related to nowadays’ relationship between our parents and us. Children could have some problems during teenage years and they need to talk to their parents about their problems. Parents sometimes cannot solve their problems of children because they were the teenagers of older times. This can cause a conflict between parents and their children.
“Murrow’s Speech to Radio-Television News” by Edward R. Murrow

The main purpose of the speech is to urge members of the radio and television news industry to consider their influence more and more on the United States and the world. Edward R. Murrow mainly talked about the importance of television and radio in today’s world and he believed that television and radio are the two main instruments which can inform people for every news about economy, sport, finance etc.
While I was reading “Murrow’s Speech”, i generally read some parts of the speech twice because , it is really difficult for me to understand. I also prepared a slide show for my presentation. When we discussed the film in class, i noticed that i missed some crucial parts of the speech. I think this was because of the speech’s academic style.

Firstly, i can clearly say that this film is one of the most simple film which i have ever seen before. It is easy to understand the main topic of the film in the first minutes of the film. The film is about the family affairs, family relationships between the father and the rest of the family members. The father, Bob Munro, is workaholic and he cannot have spare time for her wife and the children. The mother, Jamie Munro, who is sparing 9 hours a day for her children and want her family together everytime. There are also children whose names are; Cassie and Carl. They have bad attitudes because their father do not spend time for their problems. In the beginning of the film, father understands that he do not spend so much time for children and he takes his family to Colorado to spend much more time for his children and in addition to this, he has a business meeting in Colorado. When they arrive to Colorado with the motor home, children hates there and they want to turn back to home. However; later on, children start to learn the environment and have a good relationship with their father and mother, aldo they like the place which they cannot have any activities, Colorado. This film shows us that if family members spend less time for their children, then children started to get diverge and become associal. The main of the film is that family members should spend a lot of time with each other, so that they can keep the happiness in family.
What are we fighting for ? by Ralph Wedgwood

As I checked out from some websites, same-sex marriages are possible in law in such countries like Holland and some states of United States. Instead of some places around the world, same-sex marriage is mostly not seen usual as heterosexual marriage by people. This can be expounded as the differences between the cultural substructure of the socities. In the article, “What are we fighting for”, the author paid attention to the benefits of rights for gays such as; receiving health insurance, tenancy succession rights in some cities, preferential immigration treatment from some countries etc.
WHERE ARE YOU GOING ? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ? ( Joyce Carol Oates )

This is one of the story, which keeps me on reading without cease in the past few months. 15 years old girl Connie, the main character, who wants to have some freedom especially while going out with boys from about the same age of her. The author might wants to show that there are different types of boys and families should take more attention of their children more. As i read the Joyce Carol Oates’s biography, it is seen that she is strongly a feminist writer. So that, i think the last scene of the story can be defined as Connie would not be hurt by Arnold Friend, the writer emphasized on the significance of the decisions given by people but strongly women, during the life.

Although there are positive advantages such that you get free music for your own interest more easily, negative consequences are also existent.
